Solitaire games are not only fun to play, they also entail various benefits, both for the cognitive function as well as for mental wellbeing. For example, where should you move cards when you have multiple options? Read more on our solitaire strategy page to win your next game of solitaire. That's why we created an overview of the most common strategies to increase your win chances when playing solitaire. Winning at solitaire depends as much on skill as it depends on luck. Make sure to read David Parlett's extensive article on the history of solitaire for more info. In English society, solitaire gained popularity thanks to a book called Illustrated Games of Patience, written by Lady Adelaide Cadogan. Solitaire is one of the most popular card games, but do you also know its history? Solitaire has been around since the 18th century, when it first appeared in a written text. Other well-known games are Spider Solitaire, FreeCell, Pyramid Solitaire, Golf Solitaire, Tri Peaks and Forty Thieves. We all know the classic solitaire variant, officially known as Klondike Solitaire, in which you build cards on the tableau according to alternate colors. Our page with solitaire types and families classifies the most common solitaire games according to their type and family. The type of gameplay can also be used to classify solitaire games (builders, packers, non-builders). There are different solitaire game types, depending on whether all cards are visible at the start or not (closed games, half-open games, open games). These are of course all played with one or multiple decks of playing cards, but there are also other commonalities between certain games. Over 500 different solitaire variants exist. We have definitions for the most common terms on our solitaire terminology page. There are multiple specific terms that are used in texts about solitaire, such as stock, waste pile, tableau, foundations and more. Let's build a simple Language Server extension that implements autocomplete and diagnostics for plain text files. LSP Sample - A simple Language Server for plain text files The remaining document assumes that you are familiar with VS Code Extension API. This guide will teach you how to build a Language Client / Server using our Node SDK. Although the PHP Language Server is written in PHP, it can still communicate with the PHP Language Client through LSP. Each of them instantiates a corresponding Language Server and communicates with them through LSP. The HTML Language Client and PHP Language Client are normal VS Code extensions written in TypeScript. Here is an illustration of VS Code running two Language Server extensions. As language analysis tools are often heavy on CPU and Memory usage, running them in separate process avoids performance cost. The analysis tool can be implemented in any languages, as long as it can communicate with the Language Client following the Language Server Protocol.Language Server: A language analysis tool running in a separate process.Īs briefly stated above there are two benefits of running the Language Server in a separate process:.This extension has access to all VS Code Namespace API. Language Client: A normal VS Code extension written in JavaScript / TypeScript. In VS Code, a language server has two parts: Point you to some advanced topics on Language Servers.Explain how to run, debug, log, and test the Language Server extension.Explain how to build a Language Server extension in VS Code using the provided Node SDK.LSP is a win for both language tooling providers and code editor vendors! Furthermore, any LSP-compliant language toolings can integrate with multiple LSP-compliant code editors, and any LSP-compliant code editors can easily pick up multiple LSP-compliant language toolings. This way, Language Servers can be implemented in any language and run in their own process to avoid performance cost, as they communicate with the code editor through the Language Server Protocol. To solve those problems, Microsoft specified Language Server Protocol, which standardizes the communication between language tooling and code editor. This makes implementing language support for M languages in N code editors the work of M * N. From code editors' perspective, they cannot expect any uniform API from language toolings. From language toolings' perspective, they need to adapt to code editors with different APIs. Those operations could incur significant CPU and memory usage and we need to ensure that VS Code's performance remains unaffected.įinally, integrating multiple language toolings with multiple code editors could involve significant effort. For example, to correctly validate a file, Language Server needs to parse a large amount of files, build up Abstract Syntax Trees for them and perform static program analysis. However, while implementing support for language features in VS Code, we found three common problems:įirst, Language Servers are usually implemented in their native programming languages, and that presents a challenge in integrating them with VS Code, which has a Node.js runtime.Īdditionally, language features can be resource intensive. With Language Servers, you can implement autocomplete, error-checking (diagnostics), jump-to-definition, and many other language features supported in VS Code. Language Server is a special kind of Visual Studio Code extension that powers the editing experience for many programming languages. You can also jump directly to the code in lsp-sample. Walks you through building a Language Server using the Microsoft/vscode-languageserver-node library.Explains the benefits of Language Server Extension.Language Server Extension, however, provides an alternative way of implementing such language support. As you have seen in the Programmatic Language Features topic, it's possible to implement Language Features by directly using languages.* API. Extra Features: None, but Bluetooth connectivity is available as an add-on. While it lacks built-in connectivity, an add-on device is available for purchase. If you don't need a large cooking area and can look past a few inconsistencies, the 440 delivers good results at an unbeatable price. Our shorter smoking and grilling sessions, however, left meat with a smoky-clean flavor and nice sear.Ī medium-sized grill, the 440 can hold about 19 burgers. These fluctuations gave pork shoulder a somewhat astringent taste. We also noted some temperature dips during our long smoke test, about 50☏ below the preset temperature. The grill does have some hard-to-avoid hot spots, with the firebox adjacent to the cooking space and a heat shield that doesn't cover the entire grill. The 440 outperformed some more expensive models in heating time, retention, and temperature recovery. The Pit Boss 440 is a stripped-down, no-frills smoker grill. Also, the dome thermometer was out of sync with the control panel. The temperature can fluctuate, and we found a hot spot when smoking and baking. Extra Features: Stainless steel racks, bamboo cutting board, pellet storage bin, Bluetooth probes. If you're inclined, the app connectivity is compatible with Amazon Alexa or Google Home. It's one of the best set-it-and-forget-it models on the market for grilling and smoking, and its smart features actually made cooking more enjoyable for us. With Bluetooth probe thermometers and a touchscreen control panel, this grill monitors its ambient temperature, food temperature, and even low pellet supply in the hopper. Three tiers of stainless steel grates allowed us to move food on and off the grill easily. We like its large capacity, which can handle up to eight racks of ribs, nine chickens, or six pork butts. Test after test, the Timberline stood out for the amount of smoke it gave chicken, pizza, flank steaks, and pork shoulder (the juiciest pork shoulder any of the grills produced). The cost is due, in part, to its double-wall construction and convection design, which paid off in the grill's superior heat control and retention. The most expensive grill on this list, the Timberline has a high cost-to-value ratio. Though not significant, the temperature hovered about 5☏ less than our desired temperature during the smoking test. Extra Features: Grease and ash collection system, LCD control panel, smoke boost, app-controlledĪt 238 pounds, it's heavy to move.to the ever-evolving collection of excellent Weber grills. Finally, the EX4 costs about as much as the average pellet grill, which makes it a great value overall. Connected to probes, the app let us monitor and adjust the heat, and it prompted us when the time came to turn the meat. The grill has an LCD display for controlling settings, and we found its app quite useful. The EX4 checked the boxes for easy assembly and cleanup a bin for both grease and ash helps with the latter. A dark, even bark formed around the pork shoulder we smoked for almost 10 hours. While the EX4 didn't produce very distinct grill marks, it redeemed itself as a smoker with dark grill marks and a nice char on flank steaks after about an hour and 20 minutes of smoking. It can burn as hot as 600☏, and its large grilling area can accommodate about 13 burgers for high-heat grilling or three briskets for smoking. The EX4 has excellent heat control and (more importantly) retention, thanks to its porcelain enamel finish. The second-generation EX4 aced our grilling, smoking, and baking tests with consistent and even heating. We wish we could see whether the ash bin is full without removing it. We put 19 pellet grills through several common cooking scenarios, assessing them in categories from assembly to heat recovery. As such, these grills heat quickly, maintain heat well, and recover temperature rapidly after you add food or open the lid. Most pellet grills have an electric igniter of some sort, plus a fan that creates convection and moves the smoke evenly around the inside of the cook chamber. Pellets ignite quickly, burn hot, and provide smoke. In cases like these, pellet grills are the answer.Īs the name suggests, pellet grills burn small wood pellets. I might (hypothetically, of course) want to give a frozen pizza a wood oven taste when making one from scratch isn't an option. Sometimes, I want to slow-smoke food and control the level of smoke imbued without being tied to the pit for hours. Sometimes, I just want to grill some food quickly with the wood fire taste that's unachievable with a gas grill. Speaking as someone who's been voted most likely to dig a pit, build a fire, and slow roast meats on a spit on a random Tuesday, just because I can, and have, doesn't mean I want to. How API Monitoring WorksĪPI monitoring can be used to track APIs for availability, functionality, speed and performance issues, and often can be facilitated with automation.Īvailability: API monitoring checks to see if API-connected resources are available, working properly and responding to calls. Public APIs help businesses connect to offer new integrations and build new partnerships.ĪPIs provide the functionality for different application elements to interact with one another the points where they connect are known as endpoints.ĪPIs provide instructions about how to interact with services, and connect data with frontend and backend systems. Private APIs make businesses more agile, flexible and powerful. Entire businesses and applications are built on open APIs, relying on the ability to pass data back and forth between systems.ĪPIs may be private, programmer/app-facing APIs used within an internal organization or they may be public, consumer-facing APIs, and have numerous use cases. APIs give DevOps professionals instructions about how to interact with services and can be used to connect data among different systems. What is an API?Īn API is a set of programming instructions and standards for accessing a web-based software application or service. In this blog post, we’ll discuss how API monitoring works, key metrics to watch, the benefits and why it’s important to the enterprise as well as how you can get started implementing API monitoring in your organization. As such, if your product relies on external APIs, it's important for you to monitor more than just availability - you’ll also need to keep tabs on performance, data validation and processes, feature changes and security. If even one component of this chain breaks, it can have a domino effect on its dependents, whereas a similar failure in historically closed systems would have just led to an isolated incident. While this type of modularity allows for product flexibility and rapid development, it can be difficult to address any issues that arise. Rather, today’s apps are increasingly dependent on external APIs and third-party app providers (which, in turn, are reliant on other APIs and apps). Gone are the days of apps that rely solely on in-house tools. API monitoring has become even more important (and complicated) as more elements are added to the network and the environment evolves, including multiple types of devices, microservices as a key part of application delivery, and, of course, the widespread move to the cloud.ĭigital businesses are radically changing how they build and deliver software. At the most basic level, application programming interface (API) monitoring checks to see if API-connected resources are available, working properly and responding to calls. This is such a great feature and I love it, I wish more boards did this instead of using ShredLights or something else where you need to worry about charging yet another item, or worry about them breaking or falling off. They're also fully powered by the board battery itself. Truly integrated lights that can be switched on and off via the remote, with brake lights that glow brighter under braking.I flew with mine and it was an easy experience overall, compared to trying to fly with a Boosted 2nd gen. You don't need to disassemble anything, disconnect any wires, etc. This is great if you really need to travel with your board. Batteries are airplane safe and can be carried on the plane (up to 3).This is one of the best overall features of the board, but it's clear that the marketplace would rather have a larger integrated battery than small, swappable ones. Swappable battery that literally takes about 15-20 seconds to swap.(Yeah, they initially promised 24, and that sucks, but it's not a slow board by any means.) 22 mph top speed, measured and achievable by me and some friends, all of whom are 170-190 lbs.Very little maintenance compared to belt drives too, which I appreciated. I always liked the general feel of hubs and being able to just coast and ride it like a standard longboard. Hub motors, so it can be pushed when it runs out of battery (which it will).I always loved the appearance of the M1 and I still do, but it's obviously a more expensive way of doing things and is less serviceable by the end user. It looks by and large like a normal longboard, something that is increasingly rare right now with most boards having the Boosted look (bare deck in the middle, visible parts near the wheels), or just have an enclosure that runs the full length of the deck. Stiff, clean-looking deck with all components integrated inside. So after a lot of use on this thing, where does it stand in hindsight here in 2019, over 4 years after the Kickstarter campaign? Let's do a quick pro/con: I won't get into the board's disappointing initial performance before firmware 2.3, or some of the initial promises versus the delivered product those items have been covered already in depth. Overall it has held up very well, but it was not without faults (as many of you well know). I've used it as a daily commuter into the city, a grocery getter, and a recreational vehicle. Having checked the mileage on my Inboard app today, I'm sitting at a pretty extensive 643 miles of use on the board. The Inboard M1 is officially out of stock and no longer for sale direct from Inboard, marking the end of a 4+ year saga that started with an aggressive Kickstarter campaign and ended with a whimper as Inboard exited the skateboard market and moved entirely to fleet scooters. I really like the idea, robustness etc of the big Rolair- the wheels and everything, but the main thing holding me back, quite literally is the noise- which is really why I'm seeing if there's alternate methods of working with a lessor compressor and getting a good finish. The only reason I figure it was overboard for my hitachi (we've textured once but really liked the outcome and plan to do it more because of that) is because he moves exceptionally fast and treats his tools rough, and rather than take the time to let things catch up (even if we're good having to pay him an extra hour)- he goes full bore til he can't. I wasn't doing the actual texturing- rather, we had another employee who was more experienced with that doing it. If that's the case and Rolair used a similar compressor for their JC10 (I also have and love it), then I may just be sold on getting that in addition to some kind of accessory tank. Anyone use a spare air tank for texture jobs or have experience with California Air Tools? From everything I've seen, the quiet factor is awfully enticing, especially if the main thing I'd need for texture is volume that can come from a secondary tank.īy CAT compressor- you meant California Air Tools? Or is it a special type? I do believe I saw someone, in some forum during all my googling say that the Husky's are rebranded California Air Tools but I wasn't sure. If I went the Cal Air tool route, I could take the 170 I save from the cheaper compressor and roll that into a 10 gal Rolair Air Keg.Īnnnnnnnnnd that's where I'm at. I know the Rolair is rated 100% cycle and the Cal Air is 70/30 (not to exceed 45m-1hr of constant run) and I don't know about the Makita. The question comes down to when I want to spray an apartment full of texture. I know all of these should run framers all day long, with the benefit of the Cal Air being its oil-free and super quiet, and mostly doing remodels- I should never be starved of anything. I was looking at the Rolair VT25BIG, the Makita MAC5200 or the California Air Tools 4620AC. I was also contemplating California Air Tools compressors because they're oil free and almost as quiet as my Rolair JC10 which would be a boon since I often work inside apartments with occupied neighbors. I know Rolair makes great stuff, and I've heard good things about Makita as of late. My Hitachi EC12 needs retirement and I've been browsing different sizes and brands, and wanted to see what everyone here likes to use. |
